John Pashkovsky, age 78, of Warwick, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018, at the West Shore Health Center. He was the husband of Elizabeth L. “Betty” (Crowther) Pashkovsky. They were married for 54 years.

Born in Providence, a son of the late John and Olga (Teteruk) Pashkovsky, he lived in Warwick since 1965. He was a graduate of La Salle Academy in Providence and Providence College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam era. John was employed as a computer programmer / analyst at the Community College of RI, Knight Campus, retiring in 2005.

A longtime active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Hoxsie, he served on the vestry, as Junior Warden, Senior Warden, and on numerous committees. Of late, he was a parishioner of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Apponaug. In 1988, he was on the planning committee for the Celebration of the Millenium of the Baptism of Rus.

Though he played football at La Salle, his greatest passion was baseball, - Little League baseball. Known as “JP,” or “Ump,” he loved to teach the kids, even when umpiring. He and his friend, Tony Risso, founded the West Bay Umpires Association. He umpired for several years throughout RI, in Bristol, CT, and in Cooperstown Dreams Park in NY.

He was always there when someone needed something, especially a ride anywhere. He had volunteered as a driver for West Bay Community Action. He had been a member of the board of the Gaspee Days Committee, and was a past chairman of the parade.

John was the father of Laurie A. (Pashkovsky) Charpentier of Harrisville, RI, and the late Amy O. (Pashkovsky) Prado; the father-in- law of William Prado of Warwick and the late Edward Charpentier; the grandfather of Amanda (Charpentier) Thompson (husband Christopher) of Pascoag, Christopher Charpentier (wife Samantha) of Pascoag, Mikhaila Prado of Warwick, and William Prado of Warwick; and the great-grandfather of Emily, Kylie, and Caden Thompson.

He was the brother of Mary (Pashkovsky) Hagel of Waldport, Oregon, and the late Nicholas Pashkovsky; and the uncle and great-uncle of several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 5, at 8:45 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 3257 Post Road, Warwick. Burial with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours will be on Friday, January 4, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.
