ALEXANDRIA, IN- Darlene (Waymire) Stansberry, 77, a lifelong Alexandria resident passed away in her home on February 19, 2018 after an extended illness.

The daughter of Clarence and Anna (Hardcastle) Waymire, she graduated from Alexandria Monroe High School in 1959 shortly before marrying the love of her life, Dennis Stansberry; they were married for over 58 wonderful years raising 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family "making memories", watching her grandchildren's sporting events, cooking, gardening, attending the Madison County 4-H fair, and keeping stats at sporting events. Darlene previously worked at Cox's supermarket, Gaston Elementary School, Alexandria Middle School, Star Financial, and Ball State University. In her high school years, Darlene was a member of the Four Teens, singing group. She was a member of the Gilman Home Extension Club of Madison County for over 50 years. Active throughout her life in the community she spent time as a 4-H leader, Cunningham Elementary softball commissioner and coach, 4-H food and fashion judge, and winner of many 4-H grand champion baking ribbons.

She is survived by her husband; children Vicki Higdon, Scott (Paula) Stansberry, Melody (Chris) Brantman; son-in-law Darren (Elizabeth) Murphy; grandchildren Brooke Murphy, Christopher (Kylie) Higdon, Zachary Murphy, Wesley Stansberry, Nicole Higdon, Keegan Stansberry, Morgan Murphy, Abigail Stansberry, Bennett Brantman, Elias Brantman, and Eila Murphy; great grandchildren Alayna Higdon, Christopher Higdon Jr, Miranda Fuller, and Carter Higdon; siblings Beverly McDaniel, Richard "Pat" Waymire, Richard Thompson, and Melodye Clements; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Penny (Stansberry) Murphy, and brother Stephen Waymire.

Services honoring Darlene's life and legacy will take place at 10 am on Monday, February 26, 2018, in the Owens Funeral Home, Alexandria with John Trzeciak officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call at the Owens Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 pm to 8 pm.
