Kevin Rooney, 61, of Warwick, passed away after a long battle with lung cancer on October 27, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Nancy (Freberg) Rooney; married for 30 years, and the father of Allison Rooney of Brookline MA. Kevin was the son of John Rooney and the late Irene (Beliveau) Rooney. He is also survived by his sisters Colleen Rooney and Michaela Murphy, her husband Bill and nieces and nephews Brittni and Jordan Lombardi, Ashley Murphy Reagan, John Murphy and Michael Murphy; and his sister-in-law Joadie Freyer; her husband Greg and his nephews Kurt, Eric and the late Alec Freyer.

Kevin was a 1975 graduate of La Salle Academy where he was a stand- out hockey player; playing in several leagues during his lifetime. After graduation Kevin served his country in the Army. Following his service he joined the Warwick Fire Department and worked for his father's business Communications Unlimited, Inc. He took over Communications Unlimited in 1995, becoming the president and owner. In 2009, after 24 years, Kevin retired from the Warwick Fire Department as a Captain. He was a long-standing member of the Warwick Rotary and was also the Chair of the Exeter Fire District Board of Commissioners.

Kevin was an avid golfer, lover of all New England sports, with a strong distaste for the Yankees. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and especially loved entertaining at his home in Exeter during the summers.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 1, at 9:15 a.m. from Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Warwick RI 02888. An All Saints Day Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in Kevin's honor at St. Clement Church, 111 Long St, Warwick, RI. Burial will be at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter RI. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, October 31, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Kevin to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at http://www.danafarbergiving.org, or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
