Wendy Lee Gates, 60, of Lapeer, died surrounded by family Saturday April 8, 2017. She was born October 10, 1956 in Clarkston to parents Robert and June (Russako) Coppersmith. Wendy married Edward J. Gates on March 7, 1982 in Pontiac.
Wendy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a multi-discipline artist; from painting to crafting, even selling at craft shows on occasion. Mrs. Gates enjoyed cooking, crocheting and gardening; she had a real green thumb. She was a caring pastor's wife; from being Believers Fellowship Church's bookkeeper and secretary to everything for the children – "children's church" and the nursery. Any parishioner that needed something, Wendy was there; always glad to help. She will be sorely missed.
Wendy is survived by her husband of 35 years: Pastor Edward Gates, children: Caleb (Renee Perez) Gates of Metamora; Gabriel Gates of Lapeer; Lauren (James Traut) Gates of Lapeer, mother-in-law: Amelia Gates, grandchildren: Phoebe; Traut; Gianna, brothers: Bobby Coppersmith; Don Coppersmith and Scott (Pam) Coppersmith. Mrs. Gates was preceded in death by her mother and step-father: June and Art Holmes, father: Robert Coppersmith and recently her father-in-law: Edmund Gates.
Wendy's visitation will be 4:00-8:00pm Monday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Her funeral will be 11:00am Tuesday April 11, 2017 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer officiated by Pastor Jan Moore. Burial will be in Oregon Township Cemetery, Columbiaville.
