Margie A. Nelson, age 88, of Metamora, formerly of Waterford, died Tuesday, December 6, 2016.
Mrs. Nelson was born March 26, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She married Gordon S. Nelson on June 21, 1952 at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Waterford. Margie was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church in Lapeer and a former member of Our Lady of the Lakes in Waterford. Mrs. Nelson was the former owner of Silver Lake Golf Club, from 1977-1988, when she and her late husband bought Lapeer Country Club. She has owned and operated Lapeer Country Club since that time, playing an integral part of the Club's growth and expansion with her son, Gordie, and daughter, Kelly. Mrs. Nelson and her husband were instrumental in helping and growing the Lapeer Community School girls and boys golf program. Family, church and the golf course were everything to Margie. Her grandson, Michael, was the "light of her life".
Mrs. Nelson is survived by her son: Gordie (Kelly) Nelson of Metamora; grandson: Michael Nelson of Metamora; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Gordon Nelson in 1997; parents: Ray and Margaret (Diffley) Thrasher; and brother: Edward Deery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bishop Kelley School, Immaculate Conception Church or Kindred Hospice of Flint.
Visitation will be 1-3PM and 5-8PM Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. The Rosary will be prayed 7PM Thursday at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends 10-11AM Friday at the church prior to the Funeral Mass. Margie's funeral mass will be 11AM Friday, December 9, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Church, 814 West Nepessing St., Lapeer, MI 48446. Father Douglas Terrien will officiate and burial will take place 3PM Friday, December 9, 2016 at Lakeview Cemetery in Clarkston.
