SUMMITVILLE, IN- Phillip J. "Phil" Young, 85, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at the Summit Convalescent Center in Summitville following a brief illness.
He was born on June 11, 1931 in Alexandria to Harvey and Oma (Jones) Young and has lived in the Alexandria-Summitville area most of his lifetime. He was a graduate of Alexandria High school-Class of 1949. He served our country in the United States Navy and retired after 24 years. Phil farmed for several years and was a truck driver doing private hauling. He was a member of the Alexandria Eagles, a 55 year member of the Alexandria Elks #478 and the American Legion.
Survivors: Son-Jay Young in Virginia Several nieces and nephews, including special nephew and caregiver- Roger Young of Alexandria Step-children-Tony Parnell, Tim Parnell, Trina Williams, Tammy Buck, Treasa Allen and Michelle Schott
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, 2 brothers and his special friend and companion of 34 years-Frances Parnell.
Services honoring Phil's life and legacy will take place at 3 pm on Sunday, December 4, 2016 in the Noffze Funeral Home, 501 North Harrison Street, Alexandria. Cremation will follow the services with inurnment in the Marion National Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the Noffze Funeral Home in Alexandria after 2 pm on Sunday prior to the services.
