Leo Joseph Rosbottom of Rancho Palos Verdes, California, has left us to be with our Lord after a brief struggle with cancer. He died Sunday, August 21st at age 89. Born December 14, 1926 to Alex and Isabelle (Tait) Rosbottom of Huntington Park, California, he was a life-long Los Angelino. He became principle organist at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in San Pedro where he met soprano, Mary Ann McCool. Leo and Mary Ann, parishioners at Holy Trinity since 1960, had been married 54 years. He was also the long-time organist at Little Sisters of the Poor, continuing his service until 2015. Leo was a graduate of Loyola High School (Los Angeles) and received degrees from Santa Clara and Gonzaga Universities. He taught English, Latin and journalism at Peary Jr. High School in Gardena for 33 years, and then worked beside Mary Ann and their many friends at Howard Hartry Customhouse Brokerage until Mary Ann retired in 2000.Truly a man for others, Leo supported numerous charitable organizations and helped those in need. He was a patron of the arts attending exhibits, concerts, and other performances, to which his family - sometimes reluctantly - accompanied him. He enthusiastically encouraged his children and grandchildren in their varied - occasionally questionable- creative pursuits. Leo's siblings Sr. Mary Alexandrine Rosbottom SM, Isabelle McDaniel, Bernard Rosbottom, and Rev. Alexander Tait, S.J. preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Rosbottom, and children Bernard Rosbottom of Oakland, William (spouse Natalie) Rosbottom of Atlanta, and Mary Anne Caserma of San Pedro. He's also survived by his beloved grandchildren Madicyn Caserma, John Joseph Caserma, Reid Rosbottom and Tait Rosbottom. Viewing on Saturday, Sept. 3, 9:00 am at Holy Trinity Church. Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m., immediately followed by Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Little Sisters of the Poor [http://www.littlesistersofthepoor.org]
Special Thanks to all who have prayed for Leo and his family. Pie Jesu Domine, dona eis requiem sempiternam.
