French Hash Peak passed away in the comfort of her home, May 24, 2016. She was 100 years old.
Born in Grassy Creek, NC she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mega Spencer Hash and wife of the late Donald Peak for 32 years. She is survived by her three children, Rodney Peak of Jarrettsville, Joy Smith of Bel Air and Susan Suppa of Havre de Grace. Four grandchildren, Mark Smith, Shawn and Gregory Smith and Laurie Dosher; three great grandchildren, Shannon and Jacob Dosher and Brayden Smith. Her family moved to Harford County in 1918 and remained in the area.
She went to a one room elementary school for six grades and graduated Bel Air High School in 1934 and was secretary to the Principle her senior year.
French was a substitute teacher at Churchville Elementary School; she was president of the PTA for two years. She was an assistant leader of the Lady Bugs 4-H club for 10 years and secretary for the Churchville Home Makers Club for several years. She worked as a statistician for Test and Evaluation Command Safety Office at Aberdeen Proving Ground for over 23 years. During her employment with the federal government she received many awards for her service and performance.
Family, friends, handcrafts, reading and flowers were her special interest. She joined Deer Creek Harmony Presbyterian Church at the age of 16 and taught the younger children Sunday school for many years, later becoming a Deacon. She was a volunteer at Harford Memorial Hospital and the Twice Blessed Thrift Shop in Darlington for many years. She was a long time member of the Gadabouts Group in Harford County.
A viewing will be held at the Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home in Aberdeen on Thursday, May 26 from 5-8pm. Where a funeral services will be held on Friday, May 27 at 11:00am. Interment will be in Deer Creek Harmony Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Level Fire Company.
