Adam J. Schlangen, 37 of Rush City, formerly of Watkins, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming, MN following a courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. Fr. Bob Rolfes will officiate. Music will be by Kathy Pauls and Julie Koenig. Honorary casket bearers are Luke Watercott, Chad McKay, Steve Ludwig, Larry Ludwig, Mike Esselman and Josh Pikula. Casket bearers are Justin Wendroth, Rob Haag, Mike Pufahl, Justin Schneider, Shaun Haag, Eric Plantenberg, Adam Teicher and Kelly Lipinski. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and will continue from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins.

Adam Schlangen was born on February 21, 1979 at St. Cloud, the son of Leon and Karen (Schneider) Schlangen. He grew up in the Watkins area and graduated from the Eden Valley-Watkins High School in 1997. He attended St. Cloud State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

On September 8, 2001, Adam was united in marriage to Cindy Ludwig at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond. He was an amazing husband and father who will be greatly missed for his innovations, wisdom, huge heart and integrity. For the last 13 years, Adam worked at his dream job at Polaris Industries. He created many novel, innovative designs and holds many patents.

Adam's hobbies included camping, four wheeling, off roading and snowmobiling. He was a "gear head" and enjoyed working in his shop, and built his hot rod from the ground up. He was a member of the Minnesota Street Rod Assn.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy Schlangen of Rush City; Children, Hunter, Austin, Josephine and Isabel; parents, Leon and Karen Schlangen of Watkins; mother-in-law, Joyce Miller of Lakefield; grandmother, Irene Schneider of Waite Park; sisters, Lisa (Josh) Pikula of Rockville, Amy (Mike) Esselman of Austin, TX; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Adam was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond Schneider, Geraldine and Cyril Massmann, Edmund and Delores Schlangen; father-in-law, Joseph Ludwig.
