Casavant 88, of Gardner, passed away peacfully, Friday Oct. 9, 2015. Roger was born in Gardner on March 31, 1927, the son of the late Lucien and Loretta (Garneau) Casavant, and lived in Gardner most of his life. Roger served his counrty proudly with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Stationed on the USS Ringgold, he attained the rank of Petty Officer third class. Among the citations Roger recieved were the American Area Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon with 4 engagment stars, the Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with star. Roger was well known for his work in the localmanufacturing industry. he was part owner of George Bent Company before going on to open his own company, Country Home Furnishings. Roger will be sadly missed by his two sons and one daughter, John Casavant of Winchendon, Mark Casavant of Gardner, and Cynthia Martin of Gardner. Roger also leaves behind his brother Raymond Casavant, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Anna (Vangel) Casavant in 2004. The family is planning to honor Roger with burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemtery in Winchendon on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 12PM.
