Carrie Magnolia James

Carrie M. James passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Carrie was born on January 19, 1923, in Danville, VA.

Later, the family moved to Harrisburg, PA where she attended the public schools. She completed her education, graduating from John Harris High School. During her young adult years, Carrie moved to Atlantic City, NJ where she met and married Ulysses James.

Carrie continued her education by completing Business School in Philadelphia, PA while also being employed at Boardwalk National Bank in Atlantic City. Carrie was the first African American employee at Boardwalk National Bank, where she worked there for 38 years. She also was the first African American to ride on the Boardwalk National Bank float in The Miss America Parade. Carrie served on the usher board number two, was the president of the senior choir, and was also the church clerk while attending Second Baptist Church. Serving the church was her passion and her life.

Carrie is predeceased by her husband, Ulysses James. She leaves to cherish her memory, her brother, Robert Cole (Ann) of Cleveland, OH; a loving and devoted daughter, Delores Peoples of Atlantic City, NJ; three grandchildren, Deionne C. Ivery (Benjamin) of Trenton, NJ, Henry Peoples (Pam) of Las Vegas, NV, and Jeffrey Peoples of Atlantic City, NJ; three great grandchildren, Tiana Peoples, Julian James, and Angel McCoy; and a host of relatives, friends, and her close dear friend, Alberta Watkins.
