Lonnie Boyd, Jr.

Sunrise – February 1, 1929
Sunset – May 23, 2015.

Mr. Boyd was a man of faith, employed as a rigger for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard for 33 years, Custodian for the Norfolk Public Schools for 10 years, Chairman of the Deacon Board, and trustee to many churches, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great, great father to many. He gave selflessly to the Kingdom, his family and friends. Dedicated to every task that came his way. He was a giver, not a taker and never wanted to be recognized for any acts of love he did for others.

Mr. Lonnie Boyd, Jr. was born to Lonnie Boyd, Sr. and Susie Joyner, February 1, 1929 in Tarboro, NC where he received his education at Pattillo High School. He was the eldest son. He later married Eliza Joyce Boyd (deceased) and raised seven children. Mr. Boyd is survived by his children, Lonnie Boyd, III, Shirley Vann, Liza (the Scholar) Boyd, Florine White, all of Norfolk, Barbara Williams (Joseph) of Brooklyn, NY, Curtis J. Boyd and Joyce E. Boyd (deceased); siblings, Clara Moten, of NC, Doris Parker, of NC, Larry Boyd, of Philadelphia, PA, and Dale Gatline, of New York City.

He was the backbone of our family and we are truly saddened by our loss. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Thank you for your acts of kindness in our period of bereavement. May God richly bless you and keep him in his care. Special thanks to Ghent Family Practice, Virginia Oncology Associates, Norfolk Physicians and Eye Surgeons.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Rd, Va. Beach. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 12:30 pm in Full Gospel Church of the Deliverance, 711 Comstock St, Norfolk, with Pastor Emeritus, Rev. Ernest Martin & Rev Timothy Martin, officiating. Interment Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake.
