Thomas Edison Leatherman of Lodi, OH, went home to the Lord Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at his daughter's home after a long battle with MS and cancer. A lifelong resident of Lodi, he was born at the Lodi Community Hospital July 29, 1929 to Clayton and Nellie Kean Leatherman. He graduated from Lodi High School in 1948 and served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Sgt., while he was stationed in California, he met and married his wife of 61 years, Barbara Sperry.
Tom was a co-owner of Leatherman Hardware until his retirement. Tom was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints, Lodi American Legion Post # 1523 and the Harrisville Masonic Lodge # 137 F&AM. He enjoyed fishing trips to the family cabin in Canada and sporting events. He was very much involved with his loving family, and took great interest in the community of Lodi. He was respected by everyone who knew him.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Sperry Leatherman, son William (Erin)of Wadsworth, daughters Susan Meyers (John) of Sullivan, and Jane Leatherman of Lodi, his sister Margaret Hershberger (Pete) of Lodi, 8 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Judd, Robert, Joseph and sister Nona Jean Houston.
The family also wishes to thank Patricia Yuhas for her devotion and care of Tom during his last days.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Lodi American Legion Post, 120 Bank St., Lodi on Saturday, May 9, from 2:00 – 7:00 pm.
Inurnment will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to the Hospice of Medina County, the American Cancer Society, or the MS Society.
