Carmen Maria Roman Vega Martinez, beloved Mami and Abuela passed away in the loving arms of her daughter, Socorro "Sukie" Martinez Bailey, as she laid next to her on March17th.She was born on July 4th, 1918 in Luquillo, Puerto Rico to Emilio and Beatriz Roman.Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her loving husband.Jose, beloved son, Edward "Eddy", her loving son-in-law, David Bailey and her six siblings; Teresa, Manuel, Alberto, Ernesto, Americo and Gilberto.

Besides her daughter, she is survived by her three grandsons, Ashley Martinez, Dr.Justin Martinez and David Bailey., granddaughter-in-law, Jade Martinez, great grandchildren, Ryder and Story Martinez, cousin, Angie Sullivan , niece Myrta Roman, nephews, Gilbert, Manuel, and Angel Roman; and daughter-in-law, Angela Martinez. We are all grateful to have had such a beautiful, caring, loving , and fun woman in our lives.She was a pillar of strength for her daughter.She was a devout Catholic , a former secretary, a past member of the Moose Lodge, a Pink Lady volunteer at DePaul Hospital, and an ardent supporter of St.Jude.The family is grateful for wonderful care and loving support provided by the Sentara Nursing Center in Chesapeake and the Medi Home Health and Hospice team.Special loving thanks to Sharon Reid, Sentara CNA, and Nelia Macasaet, dear adoptive family member, for sharing in our beloved 's final moments, Christina Pennington, Hospice RN for the special gift and Mary Jo Packert for visiting weekly to bring the Holy Eucharist and prayers with love and devotion.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, April 11th at 11am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on Cedar Road, officiated by Father Romeo D. Jazmin.Interment will be at the Albert B. Horton Cemetery at a later date.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Judes Children's Hospital, the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.Arrangements are under the wonderful care of Altmeyer Funeral Home.Condolences may be expressed to the family at Altmeyer.com
