Judith Ann Carlson Gausepohl "Judy", 68, passed away on Monday, February 23rd at Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff, N.J.
Judy was raised in Bloomfield, N.J. by Kathleen McCann Carlson, who taught her how to make a perfect Swedish meatball, and Harold Carlson, who instilled in her the gentle and generous spirit for which Judy is often remembered.
She attended Bloomfield High where astronaut Buzz Aldrin awarded her a "gold star" for academic achievement, but it wasn't until she met her future husband Greg Gausepohl in sophomore year homeroom that she understood what it was like to truly go over the moon. Judy's love of nature sparked the couple's move to northern N.J. where they raised three children, who nicknamed her "the beamer" due to her embarrassingly wide smile of pride during school assemblies. Judy achieved the rare maternal feat in which all three of her children are absolutely convinced that they are each her favorite, and for that her children have always been grateful.
Judy will be remembered for her love of dancing in front of the mirror while getting ready for work, her love of the color green (i.e., the color of the mountains surrounding Cranberry Lake, the seagrass in her beloved Topsail Island, NC, and the tulip fields in Amsterdam), and most importantly, her unconditional love of all of us.
Judy is survived by her life partner Greg Gausepohl; her son Dr. Steven Gausepohl, her daughter-in-law Susan, her three grandchildren Rebecca, Annabeth and Andrew; her daughter Dr. Kim Gausepohl and son-in-law Shawn Graham; her son Douglas Gausepohl and future daughter-in-law Shannon Caulfield; her sister/best friend Kathleen Schwalm and brother-in-law Leonard; and brother Robert Carlson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Greater New Jersey, 400 Morris Ave., Ste. 251, Denville, NJ 07834.
