Rev. Wilma Gladys (Nee) Batts Malloy was born January 11, 1929, in Wallace, N.C. to the late Willie and Pearl Batts. She entered into "Eternal Rest" Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Mainland Nursing Home in Pleasantville, N.J.

"Gladys" as she was affectionately known by family and friends, spent part of her youth in Wallace, N.C., before moving to Rosehill, N.C. in 1945. There she attended Rosehill High School and Fayetteville State University.

Later she relocated to Washington D.C, where she attended a Nursing Academy and worked as a Certified Nurse's Assistant. While living in Washington she began communicating with and eventually reunited with her childhood sweetheart and the love of her life, Jewel Malloy. Shortly afterwards she moved to the Atlantic City area. Gladys and Jewel were married in November 1964, they enjoyed 48 years together.

Gladys and Jewel worked at the Vienna Inn together for a while. She also worked at Sears and Roebucks for many years and at Greenwood Nursing Home as a CNA as well.

Gladys was called to preach God's word in 1972. She became an Ordain Minister in 1974. She received a Bachelor of Theology Degree in 1993, and was the first female preacher at Shiloh Baptist Church, under Rev. Thomas Mills. She also served on many church ministries.

Gladys was predeceased by: her parents, Willie and Pearl; her husband, Jewel; and her son, Jule.

She leaves to cherish fond memories: a son James; three daughters, Theresa, Hazel and Lisa; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; five sisters, Alberta Boykin, Margaret Alexander (Wille), Mildred Brinson (Roman), Lucille Hill (Robert) and Doris M. Cox; two brothers, Willie T. Batts (Edna) and Isaac J. Batts (Ethel); sister-in-law, Minnie Bullard and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
