Mary (Banamassa) Amenta, 82, of Cromwell, wife of the late Sebastian V. Amenta, passed away on Sunday, January 25th at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Rocco and Rose (Grasso) Banamassa.

Mary lived most of her life in Cromwell and was a member of Saint John Church where she was past President of the Ladies Guild, parish secretary and served as lector and commentator. Mary was the first woman to become First Selectman of Cromwell where served eight years. She also served on the Board of Directors at Rook Manor, worked for the Republican Registrar of Voters for several years and was active in many civic activities. Mary was very devoted to Town of Cromwell and the people in it, she will truly be missed.

Mary is survived by four children, Anthony Amenta of Melbourne, FL, Lucy Amenta Iannucci of Cromwell, Michael Amenta of Middletown and Joseph Amenta of Cromwell; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren and her dear friend, Anne Bartolotta.

Along with her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Ann Peretti.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 31st at 9:00 am from the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am Saint John Church, 5 Saint John Court, Cromwell. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Middletown.

Family and friends may call on Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Cromwell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory may be made to the Divine Mercy Chapel of Saint John Church, 5 Saint John Court, Cromwell, CT 06416.
