Joan S. Neiley, a 54-year resident of Fairfield, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 15, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Neiley spent her childhood in Northport, Long Island, NY and graduated from Farmington School of Dental Hygiene. Joan was a very successful realtor in Fairfield for the past 37 years, most recently with Nicholas Fingelly Real Estate in Southport. She achieved top 3% status in Connecticut, top 5% nationally, receiving considerable recognition throughout her career, including the coveted Yvette McDonald Award by her peers for her outstanding business accomplishments, civic activities and local Board of Realtor activities. She was an active parishioner of Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport, where she served on the Vestry, as lector, chalice bearer, intercessor, and scheduled the liturgical calendar for all services for 7 years. She has been a member of the Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County since 1962, serving as vice president and chairing many benefit events. In 2014 she was presented with the Sustainer Award of the Year for her outstanding achievements. Her civic membership record includes Fairfield Board of Realtors and National Association of Realtors, a nine-year service on the Fairfield Conservation Commission, two years on the Town Planning and Zoning Commission, and five years with the Board of Economic Development. She is also a member of the Fairfield County Hunt Club, the Pequot Library, Greenfield Hill Garden Club, the Metropolitan Museum, a 42-year member of the Mill Plain Improvement Society and a 52-year member of the Sasquanaug Association (The Sea Lodge). She was also a member and vice president of the Contemporary Club of Bridgeport and board member of Community Sail for 12 years. For two years she organized benefit fundraisers at the Regina Quick Center for the Arts to benefit Yale Comprehensive Cancer Center in memory of Richard G. Neiley. Survivors include two beloved children, Randall F. Brophy and his wife Pippa Bradbrook of Sydney, Australia and Elizabeth Brophy Clarke of Fairfield; a cherished granddaughter, Inga Brophy Clarke; her brother, George of North Hollywood, CA. She was predeceased by her son, Richard Gardner Neiley. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 651 Pequot Avenue, Southport, followed by a reception.
