Memorial service for Doug Pickens, 82, of Edgewood will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel with Mark Turner officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Edgewood.

He passed away Monday morning, December 22, 2014 in Edgewood.

He was born April 22, 1932, in Wills Point, Texas, the son of O. T. Pickens and Lydia Bill Wade Pickens. He was a lifelong resident of Edgewood where he attended public school. Doug was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. On March 22, 1962, he married Gisela Frerks in Wildflecken, Germany. They returned to the United States in 1963. Along with his brother, Don, they owned and operated Pickens Brothers Farm & Ranch Supply in Edgewood. In the early 1970's they sold the business. Doug later was employed by Kennedy Construction in Dallas as a superintendent and John Derrick Construction also in Dallas, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing dominoes and reading books.

He was preceded in death by his parents, O.T. "Pas" Pickens & Lydia Bill Pickens; wife, Gisela Pickens on October 3, 2001; brother, Billy Paul Pickens & his wife, Geraldine; sister, Doris Rae Phillips & her husband, Vernon and brother-in-law, Alvin Phillips.

Doug is survived by two sons, Chris Pickens & wife, Denise, of Benbrook and Landon Pickens & wife, Amelia, of Macomb, Michigan; daughter, Petra Marley & husband, Brett, of Edgewood; brother, Don Pickens & wife, Vauda Rae Pickens, of Wills Point; sister, Betty Phillips, of Grand Saline and nine grandchildren, Kyle Marley, Connor Marley, Cheyenne Pickens, Landon Morgan Pickens, Gavin Pickens, Brennan Pickens, Matthew Pickens, Emily Pickens and Austin Pickens.
