Ella Erb, 96, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 14, 2014. She previously resided in the Millersburg and Winesburg areas and most recently was at Walnut Hills Nursing Home. Ella was born April 29, 1918 in Winesburg to the late Mose and Mattie (Miller) Bontrager. She was initially married to Albert D. Yoder in 1940 and subsequently married Michael P. Erb in 1974 (deceased 1996). She retired in 1979 as supervisor and instructor from the Holmes County Training Center, Lynn Hope Industries at Holmesville, Ohio. Surviving are 3 children, Edgar (Deborah) Yoder of State College, PA, Les Yoder (Rose Hostetler) of Strasburg, and Jean Landon (special friend Jerry Farnsworth) of Baltic. There are 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Surviving are 7 step children, Marie Schrock and Michael Paul Erb both of Berlin, Roy (Jean) Erb of Kidron, Daniel (Karen) Erb of Strasburg, Elsie (Bill) Weaver of Millersburg, Marvin Erb and Naomi (Junior) Kandel both of Winesburg and step daughter-in-law Barbara Erb of Berlin. There are 24 step grandchildren, 51 step great grandchildren and 13 step great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Michael Erb, she was preceded in death by her parents, her stepson Emanuel Erb, her sister Mary Schlabach and brothers John, Roman and Andy. Services will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Berlin Christian Fellowship Church with Pastor David Stutzman officiating. Burial will follow in Berlin Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday 6-8 PM at Smith-Varns Funeral Home at Sugarcreek and Friday from 10-11 AM at the Berlin Christian Fellowship Church prior to services. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. For those unable to attend please visit the funeral home's website to share a memory.
