John William Rakes, 65, passed away on October 25, 2014. He was the son of the late Murray Rakes and Frances Minnick.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Elena; daughter, Patricia Clark and her husband, William; son, John Patrick and his wife, Marissa; grandson, Samuel Jonathan; and two brothers and one sister.
John was an avid sportsman with a great love for his family and the outdoors. John owned his business, Quality Maintenance, for 27 years. He was an adjunct faculty member in the Diesel Technology Department of TCC. John had a strong work ethic and was a wonderful friend, always willing to lend a hand.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014, at 6pm, Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Rd., VA Beach. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Portsmouth Christian School Education Fund at 3214 Elliot Ave., Portsmouth, VA, or to Sugar Plum Bakery Endowment at 1353 Laskin Rd., Virginia Beach, VA.
