Douglas Wayne Burks was born 52 years ago on April 8, 1962. He was the first born to his late parents, Jay B. and District Missionary, LaVerne Burks in San Antonio TX.

Douglas "Roscoe" Burks was brought up in the church under the leadership of his grandfather the late Superintendent Walter L. Jones where he gave his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized. He was the first drummer to serve at the church and was faithful at West End Church of God In Christ (COGIC) in the youth organizations, Sunshine Band Purity Class and Youth Choir until complications from a rare illness caused him to be hospitalized. Despite his handicap, Doug graduated with his class of 1980 from Fox Tech High School. He later enrolled at the National Institute of Technology School where he received his certification in Electronic Technology.

Doug developed good work ethics by starting his work history as a teenager at McDonalds in San Antonio. He later relocated to Austin where he gained employment at the Greyhound bus station until he acquired his final job at Dell computers where he worked for 15 years as a Plant Manager.

On April 1, 2001, Doug joined the One Way Baptist Church as a drummer under the leadership of Pastor Bernard Buhl where he met his wife Sarita. He later served faithfully in the following ministries: One Way Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir where he served as the drummer, Mighty Men Choir, Leader of Orientation, Youth Teacher and Parking Lot Ministry. On December 2, 2012, he was ordained as a Deacon.

Doug leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife, Sarita Bonilla Burks; one son, Marquail Burks of Illinois one daughter, Elisha Diane Burks; three brothers and one sister, Major Lee Burks of Austin, TX, Kenneth Burks (Charline), Stephanie Burks, and Anthony Burks, all of San Antonio, TX; one uncle, Melvin Jones of Knoxville, TN; one aunt, Eloise Jones Sykes of San Antonio, TX; one godson, Joshua Gilliam of Austin, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws and special friends.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the One Way Baptist Church Music Ministry at 2107 Hairy Man Road, Round Rock, TX, 78681.

Doug requested that everyone wear blue to the service.
