Age 91 years, of Monroe, Ohio, passed away on October 21, 2014. He was born in Osorno, Chile, son of missionary parents, Henry and Clara Wagoner. He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Priscilla, and by his three children – Jack (Lily) in Columbus, Ohio, Jim (Deb) in Tampa, Florida, and Rosemary (Dan) Hagen in Cincinnati, Ohio. Also by 5 grandchildren – Rachael Wagoner, Thomas and Beth Wagoner, and Jonathan and Hannah Hagen. His older sister Ellen preceded him in death and his younger brother Henry lives in New Jersey. A graduate of the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois College of Medicine, he practiced medicine in Middletown for over 24 years. He and his wife Priscilla then went to Ecuador as medical missionaries. In Ecuador, he earned the first degree in medicine given to a foreigner in over 20 years by taking oral and written medical exams in Spanish. The Wagoners served as missionaries for 10 years with HCJB, where he served as director of medical education and as medical director of the Vozandes Hospital. He was appointed associate professor of medicine at the Catholic University of Cuenca. He was a major contributor in bringing the specialty of family medicine to Ecuador and today after a 3 year residency in family practice, the specialty has proven a resounding success for the country of Ecuador. He served his country for over ten years in World War 2 in the Army and as a physician in the Air Force during the Korean War. Dr. Wagoner was also a founding member of the Faith Alliance Church in Middletown, of "El Templo Evangelico" church in San Jose, Costa Rica, and of "Iglesia El Batan" church in Quito, Ecuador. He was an associate pastor at the "El Batan" church, which today has over 1500 baptized members, and is the mother church for 5 other churches in Quito. During these years he was privileged to preach in six countries, including Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Chile and the United States. In Chile he was able to preach in the church that his father, Rev. Henry Wagoner, had founded some 50 years before. On returning to Middletown, he was appointed chaplain by Rev. Randy Spence, to Willow Knoll Nursing Home in which capacity he served until his death. He was a member of Breiel Boulevard First Church of God, a 50 year member and past president of Kiwanis with 40 years perfect attendance, and belonged to numerous organizations in the USA and Ecuador.
Visitation will be this Thursday morning, October 23rd from 10:00-11:00am at Breiel Boulevard First Church of God. The funeral service will follow. Burial will be at North Monroe Cemetery. Pastors Newell and Duff will be officiating.
