Huzell Lawrence, Jr., was born on January 31, 1949 in Roanoke, Virginia, the oldest son of eleven children born to Miss Sallie Jackson and the late Huzell Lawrence, Sr. He was raised in a large, respectable Christian-loving family. Huzell attended the Virginia Public School system and graduated from the Roanoke Virginia High School. Upon completion of graduation, he and his family relocated to Newark, New Jersey in 1969. He moved to Linden, New Jersey 15 years ago.
Huzell, was affectionately called "Huzz" by his family and friends, loved to work with his hands. He had various jobs working with the public and interacting with people. He was a Courier at the Washington Florist shop in Newark, New Jersey. After various jobs, he was employed by Solar Chemical Compound in Linden as a Chemical Technician, retiring after 15 years of service. Huzell was a very hard worker and kept a job all of his life.
He was the life of the party. He enjoyed life, pretty women and spending money. Huzell was very close with his mother Sallie Jackson who was the apple of his eye. He enjoyed playing card games and craps.
In 2010, Huzell dedicated his life to Christ and joined Bethlehem – Judah Christian Fellowship COGIC in Elizabeth, New Jersey under the leadership of Supt. Anthony W. Gilyard.
He battled with a terminal illness for the past 3 years. Huzell finally passed from labor to reward at the Father Hudson House in Elizabeth, New Jersey. On October 2, 2014, Huzell Lawrence, Jr. answered the call of the Lord and went peacefully to dwell in his presence.
Huzell was preceded by his siblings: Carolyn Wright, James Lawrence, Willie Ratchford, Eddie Lawrence and Shawn Ratchford; and grandparents: Susie Mae and James Lambert.
Huzell Lawrence, Jr. leaves to cherish and honor his legacy, his mother, Sallie Jackson of Linden, New Jersey; two sisters: Erica Miller (Vincent) of Linden, New Jersey and Aletheia Carter (Robert) of Roselle, New Jersey; three brothers: Marvin Ratchford (Melvina) of Linden, New Jersey, Derrick Ratchford of New Jersey, and David Ratchford (Carolyn) of Linden, New Jersey; aunt and uncle: Frank and Johnnnie Lambert of Irvington, New Jersey; 55 nieces and nephews, 22 great-nieces and nephews, 17 great-great nieces and nephews; 3 grandchildren; his loving companion, Big Angie; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
