Dorothy Louise Balcombe, 94, passed away peacefully September 8, 2014 after a short illness. Born February 4, 1920 on the family farm near Odebolt, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred Christiansen and Ida Halboth Christiansen, Dorothy had 9 brothers and 3 sisters who have all preceded her in death. She attended school in Odebolt , Iowa and graduated in 1938 from Highview High School in Alta, Iowa. During the 1930's she waitressed as a fountain "soda jerk", a drug store clerk and a cashier. In the 1940's she worked at Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago while also working at the nuclear defense plant as a punch press operator. Dorothy came to Washington in the 1950's to be near her brother and sister-in-law. She worked as a waitress at the Morck Hotel and clerked at Tom Burk's Drug Store. She was introduced to Forrest Balcombe and they were married on August 30, 1952. They have one son, Robert. Over the years Dorothy enjoyed oil painting, bowling, and most of all golf with her friends.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Forrest at the family home, son Robert and daughter-in-law Linda, one granddaughter Kelsey and three great grandchildren; Keegan, Kylee, and Konor.
In lieu of a service, Dorothy asked that remembrances be sent to Shiloh Bible Camp- 2812 North River Road-Cosmopolis, WA where she spent many wonderful summers ministering for the Lord in the kitchen.
