Louis H. Asmar, 92, born July 29, 1922 in Gardner, Mass. passed away peacefully at Windsor Nursing Home in South Yarmouth, MA. On August 27, 2014.

Louis was a veteran of WWII serving as a cook for the U.S. Army. He was stationed in New Guinea supporting the 1461st Engineer Maintenance Company. Upon returning stateside he enlisted in the Air Force Reserves and worked as a Machine Setup Operator for Foster Grant in Leominster retiring in 1987. Over the years he also worked as a bartender for the family business, taught Driver Education and was a custodian for the Gardner school system.

Louis was pre-deceased by his wife Mae Marie (Kowkabany) who died in 1998 and his grandson Christopher L. Asmar in 2013. He is survived by his three children, daughter Bernadette and her husband Kenneth Krieser of South Yarmouth, Mass., his daughter Louise and her husband Duane Hotaling of Leominster, Mass. and his son Louis Asmar Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Leominster, Mass. Five grandchildren including Corinne Belsky and husband Thomas, Jason Krieser and wife Macil, Alison Lindquist and husband Dain, Katy Krieser and Joshua Asmar as well as seven great-grandchildren.

Louis was a member of Sacred Heart church and the American Legion in Gardner. He will be sadly missed by family and friends for his wit, ever present one in a million smile and ethnic cooking. He always had a joke and you laughed even when you heard it for the hundredth time. Family was everything for Louis and he lit up the room at gatherings and outings and he truly loved all the attention. He was mechanically inclined (and a big proponent of duct tape) and had a love of automobiles and motorcycles including his full dressed Harley Davidson with pegs to help his feet reach the pedals. He even found the time to get his pilot license and one of the great stories was that he flew under the French King bridge spanning the Connecticut River in western Mass. Dancing was a favorite pastime for Louis as well as a good card game with family or a leisure trip to Foxwoods Casino.

There are no calling hours. Burial will be at Saint Johns Cemetery in Gardner. A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a later date.
