Elwyn "Max" Thompson, 96 , of Leominster, died peacefully, with family at his side, Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Manor on the Hill.

Born in Otter Lake, Michigan, May 4, 1918 he was the son of Alvah and Lyndall Thompson. He lived in Port Huron, MI most of his life before moving to Gardner in 1989. In 2007 after the death of his wife of 66 years Jane, he moved to Leominster.

Max was a veteran of WWII, serving in Europe under Gen. George Patton, receiving the Bronze Star. Upon discharge he returned to Port Huron and joined his father in Thompson Plastering Co. In 1958 he took over the business, which later became Thompson Accoustical and Partition, retiring in 1976.

Active in community affairs, Max served on numerous boards and committees including the Marysville (MI) Construction Board of Appeals from 1979 – 1987. A life member of the Masons, Port Huron Lodge #58 F. & A.M., he served on their construction board. He also served on the Board of Trustees and various committees of the First Congregational Church, Port Huron. He was a former member of the Elks and the Gardner Municipal Golf Course.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Manor on The Hill and Asera Care Hospice for their kindness and loving care of Max.

He is survived by his daughter Meredith Foley and her husband Robert , three granddaughters Kailtyn Foley and her husband David Ferrante, Kara Foley, and Erin Foley, and one great-grandson Riley John Ferrante all of Leominster.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in the First Congregational Church Columbarium, Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leominster Public Library Building Fund, 30 West Street, Leominster, MA 01453.
