George Melton Reid, 81, of Simpsonville, loving husband of Freddie McDowell Reid, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014.
Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late John Henry Reid and Mary Etta Rodgers Reid.
George had been a Routeman with National Linen. He had served in the Air Force and was a charter member of Five Forks Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Terri Reid, of Charlotte; a son, Todd Smothers and his wife Carmen, of Simpsonville; one brother, Charles Reid and his wife Lois, of Greer; two grandchildren, Kati Smothers and Tyler Smothers; and a special niece, Tina Reid. George was predeceased by three brothers, one sister and a son, Dale Smothers.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014, at 2:00 PM at the Remembrance Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held after the service at the graveside.
Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners' Children's Hospital, 950 W. Faris, Greenville, SC 29605.
The family will be at the home.
