James F. Young, husband to Sandra S. Young for 46 years, entered into the eternal voyage of his ship July 1, 2014. He was surrounded by family.
James, affectionately known as "Tiny" to his family, was born in Clinton, SC, and was the son of the late George I. Young and Lillie Whitmire Young of Lydia Mill.
Retired Chief Petty Officer Young proudly served our Country in the United States Navy for more than twenty years where he fought in the Cuban Missile Crisis and in Vietnam. He served and sailed upon the USS Hunt, the USS Manley, the USS Lee and the USS Josephus Daniels where it was recognized that he contributed substantially to one of the finest, most combat ready ships in the fleet. It was written that his professionalism and knowledge kept the Engineering plant mechanically perfect. He later taught at the Naval Instructor Training School in Great Lakes, IL.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Elizabeth Young of Charleston, SC; son S. Young of Simpsonville, SC; a granddaughter Rebecca B. Young of Charleston, SC and two brothers, Curtis H. Young of Gray Court, SC and David R. Young of Laurens, SC.

Jim will be remembered as a military man, an active participant in all forms of government and an advocate for excellence in education. He was a believer and shining example of Independence, Freedom, Liberty and Justice for All, who embraced the importance of living life "in full force" when needed.
