TORRINGTON / NEW HARTFORD –

ARNETT – Anthony Arnett, passed away on April 22, 2014 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, NY on June 12, 1925; the son of the late John and Louise Arnett and predeceased by wife, Jean (Carroll) Arnett. He attended Brooklyn NY schools and graduated from WM. J. Bryan High School in Queens, NY. He was also a graduate of the NYPD Academy being appointed a Police Officer on February 1, 1949 and retiring on May 15, 1974 after 25 years of service. During his police career, he was awarded the meritorious and excellent police medals. A veteran of WWII, he served in the China, Burma, India Theatre of Operations. He was the "Forward Observer & Field Radio Operator" with the Flying Tigers 14th AAF, 312th Fighter Wing Air Support Team in North Horan, China. He was awarded the Bronze Star medal and the China War Memorial Medal by the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan). In addition, he was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with two Bronze stars. He was past Commander and Life member of the New Hartford VFW Post #2390, a member of the American Legion Post #28, the Litchfield County 40&8 Post, and the China, Burma, India War Veterans Association. He was a 4th Degree Knight and past Grand Knight of Ridgewood Council #1814, Knights of Columbus, Queens, NY and a Knight of the Armor Dei Council of Wolcott, CT. He was also past President of the West Hill Property Owners Assoc, a member of the North Western Sportsman Assoc. (Rifle & Pistol Club), the National Rifle Assoc., and member of the Immaculate Conception Church, New Hartford. He is survived by daughter, Nancy Cuozzo of Torrington; son, John Arnett of Torrington; grandsons, Michael Cuozzo of New Hartford and Ryan Cuozzo of Torrington; sister, Marion Iannone; brother, Michael Arnett, both of SC; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church, New Hartford at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Village Cemetery with full Military Honors.
