Donald Eugene Powell, age 67, of Cadillac passed away Friday April 18, 2014 at the Crystal Rivers Hospital in Florida . He was born June 11, 1947, in Cadillac, Michigan to Vernon "Red" and Margarite (McGowan) Powell. Donald enjoyed boating, water skiing, snow skiing, deer hunting, riding his four wheeler and spending time on his property. Donald owned his first boat at the age of 12. The last boat he owned was a air boat and the lake community in Cadillac was always glad when he went to Florida every year. He graduated from Cadillac High School in 1966. He served in the US Army from 1967 - 1969 . His first 19 months he was stationed in Frankfort, Germany and his last 6 months he was stationed in Garmish, Germany where he was on the National Ski Patrol for the US Army. He worked at Briedenstine 's Mobile Gas Station in Cadillac before joining the US Army. He retired from Steel Case Inc. after 23 years. Don and Denise also owned the Hot n Now in Cadillac and Big Rapids. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge in Cadillac.
Donald is survived by his significant other of 42 years, Denise Bechtel of Cadillac, MI, sister with whom he shared the same birthday, Jeanette Soper of Grand Blanc, MI, brother, Alan Powell of Flint, MI, sisters of Denise, Linda (Bryan) Hildebrant of Cadillac, MI, Michele (Keith) Baker of Union Lake MI, Cyndi (John) Fent of Birch Run, MI, Lisa Fent of Birch Run, MI. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon (Red) Powell, mother, Margarite McGowan, brother, Tom Powell, niece, Maria Powell.
Funeral services will be Thursday April 24, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home, Cadillac. Officiating will be Frank Kopasz. Interment will be at the Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Cadillac . Visitation will be Wednesday, April 23, 2014 11:00 am - 8:00 pm and 10:00 am Thursday until the time of services at the funeral home . Memorials may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church .
