George Martin Marx, 91, of Houghton Lake passed away on Wednesday April 9, 2014 at Grayling Nursing & Rehabilitation Community.

George was born on January 22, 1923 in Milford, Michigan to Hubert and Clara(Winterhalter) Marx. He grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from Clarenceville High School. George served as a Seargant Aeriel Gunner Instructor in the Army Air Force during WW II. He worked as a Machinist, Millwright, and Foreman for Conveyors Engineering setting up many of the industrial plants in the Detroit area. George was married on June 9, 1954 in South Lyon to Phyllis J. Sullivan, who preceded him in death on December 4, 2009. George enjoyed the outdoors, loving to hunt, fish, and garden, and was also an avid Red Wing's fan.

Surviving Mr. Marx are his step son, Gordon (Shelia) Cabay of Houghton Lake; daughter-in-law, Shelly Sullivan of Prudenville; niece, Sandy Marx of Howell; two nephews, Martin Marx of Howell, and Hubert Marx of Farmington Hills; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Phyllis J. Marx, three step sons, Charles Sullivan, Ronald Cabay, and David Cabay, grandson, Gordon M. Cabay, granddaughter, Georgina A. Cabay, and three brothers, Hubert, Babe, and Arthur.

Funeral Services for George Martin Marx will be conducted at 11:30 am on Tuesday April 15, 2014 from Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel with Pastor Stephen Milam officiating. Interment will be in Denton Township Cemetery, Prudenville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 15, 2014 from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:30 am at Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel.
