John G. Yonan, 88, lifelong New Britain resident, widower of Lillian (Johannan) Yonan, passed away Thursday (August 9, 2012) at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain. A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, John owned and operated J. G. Yonan & Son Painting and Decorating since 1965. He is a member of St. Mark's Church in New Britain; was a member of the Assyrian National Association for over 60 years and was named Assyrian Man of the Year in 1977; and is a past president of St. Thomas Assyrian Church of the East in New Britain.

Surviving are two sons, Steven and Dennis Yonan, both of Newington; several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Lillian, he was predeceased by two brothers, Bob and George Yonan and a sister Regina Baba.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday 10 AM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 147 West Main Street, New Britain. Burial with military honors will follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours are Monday 4 to 7 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain.
