Dale O. Bohlender

Dale Bohlender, a life-long resident of the LaSalle area successfully faced numerous challenges in his 90 years; however a recent health issue took his life on May 21, 2012 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.

Dale lived in the house on the farm and slept in the same bedroom where he was born south of LaSalle on August 20, 1921. He was raised on the family dairy farm, and farmed with his father. He attended grade school in LaSalle and graduated from Greeley Central High in 1939. Dale married Rosalyne Pike on October 1, 1944, then less than one month later was in the army. He faithfully served in the Army during WWII (1944-1946) and was part of the occupation forces in Japan. Returning home he went into partnership with his father on the dairy farm and then also purchased another farm and developed his own family dairy business in 1953.

Dale had two sons, DeWayne of LaSalle, and Daryl of Loveland. Their mother Rosalyne passed away in 1972 from cancer.

He married Lois Johnson in 1973, sold the dairy farm and moved back to the home place in 1974 where he continued farming on a smaller scale, running 20 head of Angus cows and calves. After about 25 years "pulling" calves and getting the mothers to accept their calves, he decided it was getting to be too much physically and switched to raising feeder calves and continued raising them until just a couple years ago.

Dale lost his second wife, Lois in 1980 to an automobile accident.

He married Bette Dillie in 1982 and lost her in 1992 due to cancer.

In 1993 he married his current wife Irene Powell Rouse, who still resides on the family farm.

Farming was a career he has enjoyed his whole life and he loved working with his boys and grandchildren, teaching them as they worked together. Dale remained very active in his "retirement" years, even though the farm has been rented out he continued to manage the family farm, and handle his rental properties. Last year he was still helping irrigate on the farm. He never wanted to completely quit and never did!

He is survived by his wife, Irene; his sons, DeWayne and his wife, Connie, and Daryl and his wife, Vickie; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his sister, Iris Hughes of Greeley and his brother, Milo Bohlender of Fort Collins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Leon, and his grandson, Jake.

Dale was an active member of the Greeley Seventh-day Adventist Church where he served in many ways for 70 years, most recently as head deacon for many years. He took pride in helping maintain the church and school facilities.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the Greeley Seventh - day Adventist Church, 1002 21st Ave. Interment will follow at Linn Grove Cemetery. Those who wish may view Mr. Bohlender on Thursday from 12:00 noon – 7:00 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel in Fort Collins.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that donations may be made to the Adventist Christian School in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524.
