James Nathaniel 'Spike' Davis was born on July 6, 1943 in Newark, New Jersey to James H. and Anna R. (Butler) Davis.

Upon graduating from Jefferson High School, James joined the United States Army in 1966 and served his country with great distinction and bravery during the Vietnam War where he was a member of the 25th Infantry. His valor and sacrifice earned him a purple heart as well as several other medals. James was honorably discharged in 1969.

In 1964 James was united in Holy Matrimony to Gloria 'Bootsie' Davis and from this union his daughters LaTonya and Yolonda Davis were born.

After being honorably discharged from the United States Army, James was proud to become a pioneer as one of the first African American technicians to be employed by Bell Telephone in Newark. He also worked as a Stock Clerk at Grovar, Inc. and was a dedicated substitute teacher for the Newark Board of Education. He later went on to become a successful licensed real estate agent.

James had an affinity for traveling, cooking and watching good movies*especially war movies. An avid reader, James* meticulousness and impressive intellect was legendary. He was always passionately eager to impart his knowledge and share his life experiences with family and friends. James was a generous soul who enjoyed nothing more than inspiring others through witty but engaging conversation and stories where he would express *point blank*, as he would often say, how he felt with genuine love. His candor, humor, generosity and immense patriotism will truly be missed by all the lives he touched.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gloria *Bootsie* Davis, and his brother Barry Davis.

He leaves behind to honor and cherish his memory: a special friend, Elaine Grant of Newark, New Jersey; one brother, Dana J. Davis of Newark, New Jersey; two sisters, Bernadette Davis of Newark, New Jersey and Denise Daniels of Newark, New Jersey; wife, Delores Davis of East Pointe, Georgia; four daughters, LaTonya Davis of Miami Beach, Florida, Yolonda Davis Holmes of Orlando, Florida, NaTanya Huff of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey and Tracy Huff of Carteret, New Jersey; one son, Barry Huff of East Pointe, Georgia; five grandchildren, Asaad, Darnell, Jarod, Jayden and Nasir; one great grandson, Jeremiah; nieces, Serena Jones, Deona Davis, Dalynn Davis and Theresa Davis; nephews, Eric Daniels, Dana Davis Jr, Jr., Marcus and Sedric Henderson; and a host of grand nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
