EVA BEATRICE MARTIN HARRIS was born on March 11, 1921, in Chester, Pennsylvania, to the late Lewis and Teresa Crew. She departed this life on Monday, January 2, 2012.

She was educated in the public schools of Chester, Pennsylvania. She was employed in the culinary/food service field and in the nursing profession.

Eva was the eldest of twelve children and immediately took on the role of the nurturing big sister. At the age of 16 she was baptized at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Twin Oaks, Pennsylvania. It was there she later met and married Haywood Lee Martin. She was an active member and gave generously of her time, abilities and resources by serving on the choir, as a deaconess and usher and and on the Missionary Board.

In 1961, she moved to Yeadon, Pennsylvania where she continued her active membership at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. Eva was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and aunt to her family. She was widowed after 35 years of marriage. In 1985 she married the late Charles C. Harris, Jr. and moved to Wilmington, Delaware. She became a member of Ezion Mt-Carmel United Methodist Church in 1988, where she remained a member of the Chancellor Choir, later to become the Sanctuary Choir, until illness prevented her participation. She was was a member of Martha Chapter #2, Order of Eastern Stars.

She found joy in sharing her home and heart with friends and loved ones. She always showed her compassion and interest in others, made friends easily, and maintained contact with many friends over long periods of time. Eva enjoyed listening to music, traveling, singing, sewing, and cooking, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was an outstanding mother, and her bond with her daughters could not be matched.

She leaves to cherish fond memories: two daughters, Arnetta M. Taylor of Morgantown, Pennsylvania and Lynn M. Sharps of Bear, Delaware; one son-in-law, Howard Sharps; four grandchildren, Eric M. Taylor, Carl E. Taylor, Nicole Dawson Benson, and David A. Taylor; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Missouri Jean Pulliam, Edna Draine, and Bessie Draine; two brothers, David Crew and Donald Crew; her extended family, step-son, step-daughter, grandsons, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Service will be 9:30 am Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Ezion-Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 800 N. Walnut Street, Wilmington, Delaware; viewing from 8:00 am - 9:00 am only.
