Our own wonderful angel, Olga "Oggie" Courrejou, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 26, 2015. She spent almost 88 years of her life in her beloved Soledad, CA. Oggie was born Oct. 1, 1925 in San Jose, CA to Pasquale and Lina Tonini. The Tonini family moved to Soledad, in 1928, when Oggie was 2 years old after Pasquale heard about a hotel that was for sale. He found a partner and together they purchased what was then called the Frolli Hotel. In 1931, after the death of his partner, Pasquale became sole owner and renamed the hotel the Pasquale Hotel and Restaurant. Along with her two sisters, Alice and Evelyn and brother Eddie, Oggie lived at the hotel until she went away to nursing school in 1945. Living in the hotel was a great experience and she loved to share stories about all the interesting people that were guests. In fact, she met the love of her life, Elie Courrejou while working in the restaurant. Although they only grew up one street apart from each other, Oggie didn't catch Elie's eye until she was getting ready to leave for college, in 1946. Once she got on his radar, he pursued her the whole time she was away at school where she attended St Mary's School of Nursing in San Francisco. They were married one week after she graduated from College on February 27, 1949. Elie and Oggie didn't waste any time starting a family when first born David came along one year after they were married. In fact, of the eleven children, the first six were born one year apart and are referred as "the first batch". After taking a break for four years, the second batch starting arriving, but this time they were two years apart and finally the baby of the family, Monique, was born in 1971. At the same time Oggie was adding to the family she also worked full time as a registered nurse. During her entire career of 37 years, she was known as the town nurse, working alongside Dr. Richard Handley and Dr. Tim Freidrichs. Many people said she had the most gentle hands and loving bedside manner. Oggie's faith was always in the forefront of her life and she was very active in Our Lady of Solitude Catholic church. She was a Sacrasten, Eucharistic Minister, and a catechism teacher where she taught 1st Holy Communion classes, and was a member of the Altar Society. For many years, she served on the 4th of July committee and would man the hot chocolate booth for the annual 4th of July celebration. Survivors include her 10 children;David (Susan) Courrejou of Salinas, CA, Tom Courrejou of Monterey, CA, Annette (Brian) Handley of Lincoln City, OR, Richard (Debbie) Courrejou of Burney, CA, Michael (Anne) Courrejou of Arroyo Seco, CA, John (Shae) Courrejou of Mead, CO, Michelle Courrejou of Soledad, CA, Noël (Jerry) Vosti of Soledad Mission, CA, Suzette Courrejou Livingston of San Ramon, CA, Monique (Lonny) Sayles of Cottage Grove, OR; sister, Alice DalFavero (Alfeo) of Rocklin, CA, 18 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will now join her beloved husband Elie, daughter LeeAnn, sister Evelyn Cardona, brother Eddie Tonini, and parents Pasquale and Lina Tonini along with a lot of her friends that have already started on their new journey.
