Dorothy Margaret (Margie) Shaw Dare passed away at home in Aberdeen on June 4, 2016, at the age of 93. She was born in Washington, DC, the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Mura Buck Shaw, and the wife of the late Frank C. Dare for 60 years.
Mrs. Dare graduated from and taught math at the University of Maryland, College Park. A number of years after moving to Aberdeen, Harford Junior College (now Harford Community College) began and she was one of the original part-time math instructors. She was instrumental in forming the college's chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor fraternity. After holding a number of positions at Harford Community College, she retired as a counselor in 1981.
Mrs. Dare was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma.
Mrs. Dare is survived by her children, Margaret (Midge) Scibek (Jim), Richard (Dick) Dare (Peggy), Karen Mitchell, and daughter-in-law, Kira Hodous Dare. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Patrick Dare (Andrea), Jennifer Scibek, Robin Dare, Michael Mitchell (Laci), Robert E. Dare (Amber), Jennifer Mitchell, Justin Mitchell, and Scarlet Dare. In addition, she is survived by seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Dare was also preceded in death by her grandson, Sean Dare, sister, Helen Taylor, son, Robert A. Dare, son-in-law, H. H. Perry Mitchell, and brother Eugene Shaw.
Services will be held on June 11, 2016 at Grace United Methodist Church, Aberdeen, with visitation from 12:30-2:30 and a memorial service at 2:30. A reception will follow in the church hall.
Family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mrs. Dare's name to: Grace United Methodist Church, 110 W. Bel Air Avenue, Aberdeen, MD 21001.
