Viola was born January 27, 1918 to Frank Vavra and Johanna Engelman Vavra and raised in the Community of New Tabor near Caldwell, Burleson County, Texas. She grew up working on the family farm along with her parents and four siblings. When she was 18 she went to Houston to be a nanny. She later returned to Caldwell where she worked at Simpson's Grocery Store, and then later at Billy's Drive In. In addition, she also cared for the elderly. She married her husband Frank when he came home from the war. Together they raised three children, two girls and one boy. Viola enjoyed raising a vegetable garden, cooking and tending to her flower gardens well into her 80's. Viola was a loving mother and grandmother.

She was a member of the New Tabor Church and was baptized there as a young child. She was a member of the Christian Sisters Organization. She worshiped there her entire life until she moved to Burleson St. Joseph Manor in December 2003. She enjoyed playing dominoes and bingo and the sing-a-longs with Friendship Baptist Church.

Viola is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Susan Skrabanek, of Caldwell; daughters and son-in-law, Sharon and Howard Chapman of Caldwell, Linda Perry of Bryan, Dorothy Ondrasek, Virginia Barnett; grandchildren, Michael Light, Michelle Light Hicks, Howard Chapman, Jr., Leah Chapman Smith, Kyle Skrabanek; eight great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Frank C. Skrabanek; brother Lawrence Vavra, sister, Martha Hoffman, and great grandson Justin Daw.

The family suggests memorial contirbutions be made to New Tabor Church.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Strickland Funeral Home of Caldwell.
