Funeral services for Joanna L. (Rogers) Hudson, 88, of Bryan, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Bryan with Rev. Rick Siton officiating. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 21st with the family present between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. Mrs. Hudson died Sunday morning, August 19, 2012 at Hospice Brazos Valley in Bryan.

Joanna was born April 16, 1924, the daughter of Joe Louis and Vertie (Tutt) Rogers in Bryan, Texas. She graduated from Somerville High School as the valedictorian and attended the University of Texas. On December 26, 1946, she was married to the love of her life, Louis C. Hudson, Jr., in Somerville by Bro. Charles Doak. Joanna was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Bryan and was the president of the Sunday school classes she attended. She was also active in the Eastern Star in Somerville where she served as Worthy Matron and in El Campo where she was a member. Joanna was involved in the Circle Square Square Dance Classes and was active in the Business and Professional Women in Bryan as well as being a member of the Newcomers Club for Texas A&M University. She worked for General Electric in Fort Worth and at the Bryan Air Base as well as serving as the secretary to the School Superintendent of Burleson County Schools in Caldwell. She also worked for Sanford Insurance Company in El Campo and Williams Insurance Company in Bryan before she worked for Texas A&M University Research Foundation where she retired. Joanna was described as a wonderful Christian woman who respected "old fashioned" morals and values. She was a "real lady". She was deeply committed to her husband, children and grandchildren. She is remembered as a great bridge and forty-two player. She was also a very good cook and loved to prepare meals and especially desserts for friends and family.

She is preceded in death by her parents; survivors include her husband of 65 years; Louis C. Hudson of Bryan; her children, Kay Lin (Hudson) Mueller and her husband Ken of Austin; Jo Gayle Hudson and her partner, Stephanie Hudson of Dallas; and Sue Ann Hudson and her partner, Georjane Branham of Sandy, Utah; her sister, Patsy Brantley of Somerville and her brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Janice Rogers of College Station; along with grandchildren, Hudson Mueller and wife Carolina Blomberg of New York City, New York; Jane Mueller of Houston; Sydney Hudson of Dallas; Derek Anderson of Sandy, Utah, Dylan Anderson of Sandy, Utah; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, Joanna's family requests that memorials be given to First United Methodist Church of Bryan or the charity of choice.
