Nelson M. Caley
Age 86, of North Industry died Monday, May 27, 2013 in Aultman Compassionate Care Center following a brief illness. Born November 19, 1926 in North Industry, Ohio to the late Samuel G. and Grace (Hudson) Caley. He was a life resident of North Industry and a WWII veteran having served with the Merchant Marine aboard several Liberty Ships as a radio officer. Nelson retired from Ohio Bell in 1984 after 34 years of service. He was a member of North Industry Christian Church which his grandparents were instrumental in the founding of the church. He was a member of the Canton Amateur Radio Club and Quarter Century Wireless Association with the call letters, W8EAR. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers where he was involved with Toys of Love and installed "Life Lines" for area hospitals. Nelson was a charter member of the former Canton South Kiwanis Club and now Canton South Community Men's Club where he helped deliver Meals on Wheels. He was also a member of the Stark County Bicycle Club and Land of Lakes Airstream Club. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Pauline V. (Blanc) Caley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Randy Matney of Johnson City, TN., Susan and Ora Martindale of Havensville, KS; one son, Dean Nelson Caley of North Industry; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie Gatcomb of Prescott Valley, AZ., Dorothy Caley of Boise, ID. Funeral services will be Friday, May 31, 2013 at 10:00 am in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave. with Craig Ott officiating. Interment in Melscheimer Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 pm. Memorial donations may be made to Project Liberty Ships at P.O. Box 25846 Highlandtown Station, Baltimore, MD. 21224-0546.
