John Wesley Thomas was born on August 10, 1944 in Atlanta, Georgia to Christine Davenport Watson and the late Rand Thomas Jr. He departed this life for eternal life on Sunday, June 19, 2005.
John was educated in the Atlanta, Georgia and Detroit, Michigan Public School System where he graduated High School.
“Cryp John” or “Uncle Cryp”, as he was affectionately known, relocated to Newark, New Jersey in 1960, where he met and married Nellie, and to this union one daughter was born, Shalonda. He was also the proud father of five other children, Sylvene, John Jr., LaShanda, Terrell and Johnathan.
John was employed with Herculite Concrete in Hillside, New Jersey where he was a Mixer. He was a dedicated employee for over fifteen years before he retired.
“Cryp John” was known everywhere he went for his slick dancing and his pimp style dressing. He was an excellent Chef, known for his “Masterpiece Gravy”.
John was preceded in death by, his beloved friend of many years, Ernestine Thomas, brother, Chris, and his only sister, Vivian
He leaves to cherish his memory: three daughters, Shalonda Thomas, LaShanda Thomas and Sylvene Riddick; three sons, John Thomas Jr., Johnathan Dickson and Terrell W. Thomas; two stepchildren, Catrina and Roger Thomas; his mother, Christine Watson;; eleven grandchildren, Shantell, Joe, Sharod, Tamara, Tihera, Marquale, Safian, Dequan, Tamir, Zaniyyah and Trenell; two brothers, Jerry and Joe; two sisters-in-law, Ernestine Thomas Bowser and Loretta Watson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Ode to a Child I'd like to become a child again And sit on my daddy's knee; Oh, the things that I would ask him now That he lived to be sixty. Oh, to become a child again Just to play on a summer's day; To splash in mud puddles in afternoon rain— It's more fun that I can say. But since I can't be a child again And sit on my daddy's knee— I'll just be content to hold a child And introduce him, Lord, to thee.
