Marjory Weldon Hague Lived a Remarkable Life:
Beloved Wife, Devoted Mother, Engaged Volunteer, Gifted Singer & World Traveler

Marjory Weldon Hague, a lifelong resident of Montclair, who passed away at the age of 92 on November 17th 2016, lived a remarkable life that was devoted to her family, friends and giving back to others. Mrs. Hague's daughter, Allison Sargent, said that her mother died at the family home in Montclair after a brief illness.

The late Mrs. Hague, also inspired many people with her life-long optimism, big smile and unbelievable outlook on life. A memorial service for the late Marjory Hague will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 10am at the Union Congregation Church, which is located at 176 Cooper Avenue, Montclair, New Jersey.

Mrs. Hague and her late husband, Robert F. Hague, were recognized throughout their shared lives as an exceptional couple. As individuals and a married couple, Mr. and Mrs. Hague truly represented the ideals, accomplishments and willingness to serve people that has become the hallmarks of the "Greatest Generation." This is the generation of men and women who grew up during the Great Depression, lived through World War II and then were focused on raising families as well as contributing to their communities while being guided by a higher purpose in life.
The events that occurred early in the lives of Marjory and her identical twin sister, the late Doris Weldon Jagger, shaped their approach to life. Born on August 12, 1924 in Montclair's Mountainside Hospital, each sister weighed just 1.5 pounds. For many decades, Marjory and Doris, were the smallest children, measured by weight, born at Mountainside hospital. From then on, they were inseparable and always dressed alike, specifically in their Scottish kilts, as they had tremendous pride for their Scottish heritage.

Instilled with the will to live and thrive, Marjory began helping people at a young age. She was an active Campfire Girl and a gifted singer who sang at Central Baptist Church in East Orange. Later in life, Marjory was the lead soprano at Union Congregation Church in Montclair for many decades.

Marjory and Doris Weldon faced the death of their mother, Jesse Kerr Weldon, when they were just four years old. Edwin Charles Weldon, their father, raised his daughters with the help of his mother and loved ones. Even as a child, Marjory began to show that she was a person with a purpose for living and a love for helping others.

Encouraged by their father, Marjory and Doris pursued many interests and were active young athletes. Marjory and her sister spent many summers as campers at Camp Nyoda in West Milford, New Jersey. Marjory was selected to participate in Girl's State program for inspiring vocalists and continued in this training for many years.

When she was 12, she and her family moved across the street from her future husband, the late Robert F. Hague, and his family in East Orange. Marjory and Bob were childhood sweethearts and were only apart when he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Hague was a decorated crewman in the American bombers and faced many harrowing experiences during the air war over Europe.

Upon his return from the war, Marjory and Bob were married for 67 years. The couple moved to Providence, Rhode Island, where Mr. Hague attended and graduated from Brown University. Marjory continued her career as a dental assistant. Highly motivated and experienced, Marjory assisted dentists during procedures, served patients and helped administer the office.

Marjory and Bob returned to Montclair and they purchased what became the Hague family home in Montclair, NJ. The couple raised two children, the late Elliot Weldon Hague, and their surviving daughter, Allison Hague Sargent, who currently owns in lives in their family home.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Hague shared her talent as an accomplished singer by performing and entertaining many people. As a member of The Montclair Operetta Club, she performed in 75 shows over four decades, was an original member of the Mellow Chords of the Montclair Operetta Club and founding member of the Echo Five. She also created "Marge Makes Music" and for 25 years sang with an accompanist at senior centers, veteran's hospital, and many venues during the holidays and throughout the year.

Mrs. Hague also led the Upper Montclair Women's Club and served the organization as its president two times. There, she was also very active in forming the Women's Choral Group and was passionate about her many philanthropic endeavors for over 50 years. Marjory also served the Montclair Republican Club and she was selected as County Committeewoman. She was also very involved in the PTA in the Montclair School district for many years.

In addition, Mrs. Hague assisted the Green Hill Senior Living facility in West Orange by serving on the facility's board of counselors for 25 years. After her mother in law, Lucille Hague, became a resident at the community, Mrs. Hague helped raise funds by organizing and running events and activities.
Mrs. Hague and her husband shared a love of traveling across the United States and around the world. One of the family's most memorable journeys occurred when the Hague Family took a six week cross-country tour by car. They visited family, friends, historic sites, and national parks.

Marjory joined her husband on excursions for business and the couple enjoyed visiting many countries while on vacation. Later in life, Mr. and Mrs. Hague took a round-the-world cruise on the Queen Elizabeth II. During the passage, the ship's captain asked Marjory to sing with the onboard orchestra. She enthralled the passengers with her beautiful voice.

Earlier in her life, Marjory and Doris along with their husbands purchased a cottage on the Jersey Shore at Normandy Beach in 1948. Enjoying summers at the beach began a family tradition that continues today. The extended family, along with many friends, have been sharing experiences by the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay in such communities as Bay Head and South Mantoloking for over 65 years.

This past summer, Marjory spent much time relaxing at The Sargent's beach house. She shared time with Allison and her husband, David, grandchildren, Tucker J. Sargent and Carlyle S. Lynch and her husband, Brendan Lynch.

Mrs. Hague loved hosting family and friends at her homes in Montclair and at the Jersey Shore for decades. Marjory was also a talented cook and generous hostess, who always found a place at her table for unexpected guests; especially during the holidays, when The Hague household was filled with activities, visitors and plenty of delicious food.
In discussing her grandmother, Carly Sargent Lynch said, "Everyone was touched by Marge's sense of optimism and generous spirit. She lived a principled life shaped by her positive attitude, patience and depth of character. She was the most magical grandmother."

Marjory Hague was laid to rest with her late husband, Robert F. Hague, deceased son, Elliot Weldon Hague, and departed family members in Brooklyn's Green-Wood Cemetery.

She was the mother of the late Elliot Weldon Hague, and is survived by her daughter Allison Hague Sargent, and David Sargent, her husband, as well as two adoring grandchildren Tucker J. Sargent and Carlyle S. Lynch, and her husband Brendan Lynch. Marjory is also survived by her half-brothers Edwin and Rocky Weldon, very special niece and nephews, Betsy Hague, James Hague, Dr. Kenneth Jagger and Dr. Glenn Jagger, and her cousins and many dear friends.

Memorial donations may be made in her honor to the Women's Club of Upper Montclair for the Marjory Weldon Hague Memorial Fund located at 200 Cooper Avenue, Upper Montclair, NJ 07042.
