Marlin Leonard Princing, age 82, of Lapeer, formerly of Flint, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017. Mr. Princing was born October 2, 1934 in Clio, to Leonard and Della (Neeley) Princing. He graduated from Flint Northern High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army.
Marlin married the love of his life, Dorothea Montpas on August 13, 1960. Mr. and Mrs. Princing were active members of Immaculate Conception Church in Lapeer. Marlin was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Goentges Council #1987, where he was a 3rd Degree Knight. The Princing Family was named "Family of the Year" and Marlin was named "Knight of the Year" by the Knights of Columbus Council #1987. He worked many many years at the Kroger Store here in Lapeer, where he made many dear friends. Mr. Princing enjoyed playing card, watching "MASH" on television, but above all spending time with family. Marlin was a loving and devoted husband, Dorothea was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1964, he supported and cared for her until her death in 2006.
Mr. Princing is survived by his children: Linda (Steve) Kaufmann of Gaylord, John (Sylvia) Princing of Flint and Mary (Jeff) Gavitt of Millington; grandchildren: Justin (Ashley) Gavitt of Millington, Ashley (Tyler) Reinert of Millington, Courtney Gavitt of Millington, Matthew Kaufmann of Gaylord, Nathan Kaufmann of Gaylord, Brian Princing of Flint and April Princing of Flint; great-grandchildren: Aiden Gavitt and Elliott Reinert; and sister: Dolores Clark of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife: Dorothea; parents: Leonard Princing and Della Rudder; and sister: Peggy Montpas.
Visitation will be 1-4 and 6-8PM Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. The Rosary will be prayed 7PM Sunday at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the funeral mass, at the church. Marlin's funeral mass will be 11:00AM Monday, June 26, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Church, 814 West Nepessing St., Lapeer, MI 48446. Father Douglas Terrien will officiate, with burial in Mt. Loretto Cemetery, followed by military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard.
