Elizabeth Ann Johnson, age 83, of Lapeer, died Sunday April 5, 2015. Elizabeth was born February 23, 1932 in Springfield, Illinois to James Patrick and Laura Evelyn (Osborn) McGinnies. She graduated from Springfield High School and received her degree as a registered nurse. Elizabeth married Donald Eugene Johnson on October 6, 1951. Mrs. Johnson did secretarial and accounting work for Mr. McCormick a local Lapeer Developer. After her husband Donald retired, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson opened up Johnson Specialty Company here in Lapeer, a cake, candy and gift shop. Elizabeth made and decorated wonderful cakes, wedding cakes and candy, for many years she taught classes at the store. Mrs. Johnson attended Grace Baptist Church in Lapeer, she was a devoted Christian. Elizabeth was always a giver, volunteering her time for many local charities and anonymously giving to those in need. She enjoyed telling jokes, playing Scrabble, playing bingo at the Pines and caring for all animals...especially cats and dogs. Elizabeth was a talented artist: sculpting, painting and crocheting.
Elizabeth is survived by her children: James William Johnson of California, Virginia (Mark) Martyn of Holly, David Johnson of Milford, Sherrie (Arthur) White of Lapeer and Diana (Paul) Kosha of Lapeer; 10 grandchildren: Ben, Naomi, Philip, Aimee, Kyle, Sean, Amber, Tambra, Thomas and Timothy; 11 great-grandchildren: Douglas, Marcus, Caleb, Joziah, Aliyah, Tobyn, Abel, Mira, Genevieve, Andrew, Jasmine and Isaac.
Visitation for Mrs. Johnson will be 4-8PM Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. Funeral service will be 11:00AM Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Memorial contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice or Lapeer Child Advocacy.
