SHARKEY, Doris Rose – 86, who called Lapeer home since 1968, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Doris is survived by her nine children: Patrick Sharkey, Maureen (Craig) Sharkey, Linda (Don) Biggs, Michael (Corinne) Sharkey, Tim Sharkey, Ann Sharkey, Dan (Becky) Sharkey, Margaret Sharkey, John (Lonnie) Sharkey; eleven grandchildren: Nathan (Connie), Paul (Jamie), Ben, David, Elizabeth, Maeve, Quinlan, Liam, Katie, Lily, and Sophia; great-grandchildren: Christian, Sydney, Jessica, and Jaxson. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John D. Sharkey, and parents Leo and Gladys Jettinghoff.
Mrs. Sharkey was an elementary school teacher in the Detroit, Birmingham and Lapeer Community Schools for over 35 years and due to her love of teaching, had a second career teaching at Baker College for another 15 years. During her retirement she volunteered for many years at Family Literacy Center and was an active member and past president of the Lapeer Retired Teachers Association. In her spare time she loved to travel, attend plays at Meadowbrook Theatre, play bridge with her many friends, and enjoyed luncheons with the "Doris Club." Most importantly, she loved and adored her family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bishop Kelley Catholic School, Lapeer.
A memorial gathering will be at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer, from 2:00-8:00p.m. Friday, February 13, 2015, with the rosary prayer at 7:00p.m. A memorial funeral mass will be held Saturday, February 14, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Lapeer, Michigan. www.MuirBrothersLapeer.com
