Joyce Elaine Patten, age 85, of Lapeer, died Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Mrs. Patten was born November 10, 1929 in Lapeer, to parents Thomas I. and Audrey Beatrice (Marlow) Collins. She graduated in 1947 from Lapeer High School and married Vernon Edmond Patten on April 30, 1949 in Lapeer. Joyce was a real estate agent in Lapeer County for over 30 years, working most of her career for Della Spencer Real Estate/ Century 21- #217. She also drove school bus for Lapeer Community Schools and worked at the office of Dr. O'Conner, a local optometrist, for many years. Mrs. Patten was a member of St. Dunstan's Episcopal in Davison, where she was Superintendent of the Children's Chapel for over 20 years. Joyce enjoyed golfing, bowling, euchre, music, dancing and especially shopping.
Joyce is survived by her children: David L. Patten of Clearwater, Florida, Dale F. (Leona) Patten of Valparaiso, Indiana and Debra (Gary) Husted of Metamora; grandchildren: Tom, Dale, Tim, Rachelle, Kyle, Kirk, Gary Jr., Chris, Lesley, Elaine, Amanda and Nathan; great-grandchildren: Charlie, Jamie, Jamie, Christopher, Tim Jr., Mason, Shane, Kaitlyn, Ahnika and Allicia; brothers: Howard (Jean) Collins of Lapeer and Wayne (Darlene) Collins of Brown City; brother-in-law: Bob Pethers of Lapeer; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Patten was preceded in death by her husband: Vern Patten in November of 2014; daughter-in-law: Cheryl Patten; parents: Thomas and Audrey Collins; and sister: Lola Pethers.
Visitation will be 4-8PM Friday, January 30, 2015 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. The funeral service for Mrs. Patten will be 9:30AM Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the funeral home, Rev. John Kaiser officiating, with burial to follow in Stiles Cemetery, Lapeer. Memorial contributions may be made to Suncrest Auxiliary, 1455 Suncrest Dr., Lapeer, MI 48446.
