Mr. Beltz proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a well-educated man; with a bachelors from the University of Michigan as well as a masters degree from Wayne State University. James taught in a few schools, ending primarily at the Lapeer County Vocational Tech: where he taught home building and also held the position of counselor. He was a true advocate for children, he was even a charter board member of the Lapeer Co. Citizens Probation Council. Mr. Beltz enjoyed wood working, playing cards, reading and traveling. Anything he could do to be social, he loved – it was said he was "such a nice man" who was "so friendly & loved to talk." Above all else, he loved his family, with a special place for his grandchildren and fishing. He will be missed.

James is survived by his wife of 47 years: Wanda Beltz, children: David (Dawn) Beltz of Vicksburg, Michele (Joe) Burpee of Lapeer, grandchildren: Jacob, Zachary, Brendan, Jocelyn, siblings: William (Muriel) Beltz of Oxford, Ann (Ron) Goetzke of Lewiston, Tom Beltz of Marlette, many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents.
