Michael Edward Smith , 63, a lifetime resident of Lapeer, died Monday, February 17, 2014.
Mike was born September 26, 1950 in Lapeer to Floyd R. and Frances L. (Browne) Smith. He graduated from Lapeer High School, class of 1969. Mike served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Mike was very proud of his military service. He enjoyed a successful career at Ford Motor Company where he was a test driver as well as teaching defensive driving techniques to employees, including certain Ford security personnel. Mike had a lifetime love of farming that never waned. He enjoyed NASCAR, particularly time spent with family and friends at these events.
Mike is survived by his son, Michael Smith, Jr. of Kingwood, TX; daughter, Anita (David) Frey of Green River, WY; four grandchildren: Hope, Faith, Breckon and Ashley; three stepchildren: Dameon, Shannon and Shawn; siblings: Larry Smith of Lapeer, Bob Smith of Lapeer, Pat Smith of Hadley, Barb Streu of Lapeer, Kathy (Brian) Bretz of Clifford, Nancy Edwards of Lapeer and Paul Smith of Ashland, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held 2:00PM Friday, February 21, 2014 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Michael's family will receive friends from 1:00PM Friday until the time of the service. Cremation has been entrusted to Muir Brothers. Burial with full military honors will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI at a later date.
