Joseph S. Taylor, age 71, of Lapeer, formerly of Berkley, died Thursday January 16, 2014. Mr. Taylor was born December 27, 1942, in Detroit, to Wilbur and Veronica (Brennan) Taylor. He married Mary Elaine Trudell on April 25, 1964 at St. Rita Catholic Church in Detroit. Joseph worked over 34 years for Schindler Elevator Corporation, retiring as an elevator mechanic. Mr. Taylor was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Lapeer. He loved woodworking, camping, playing with his grandchildren, spending time on the Great Lakes, "tinkering around" and the cabin on Whitefish Bay.
Joseph is survived by his wife: Mary Taylor of Lapeer; children: Michael (Deborah) Taylor of Henderson, Nevada, Marie (James) Richard of Cape Elizabeth, Maine and Paul (Michelle) Taylor of Traverse City; grandchildren: Alexander, Justin, Cully, Clark, Sabrina, Silas, Shane, Sawyer, Atticus and Lillian; siblings: Jim (Joanne) Taylor, Rita (Ron) Gammon, Bob (Val) Taylor, Margaret (Rob) Numerick, Martha (Bill) Diederick and Dave (Wendy) Taylor; brothers-in-law: Don Brown and Ted Kalinowski; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Catherine Brown and Mary Lou Kalinowski.
Visitation for Mr. Taylor will be 5-8 PM Monday, January 20, 2014 and 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. A Scripture Service will be 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass for Joseph will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Church, 814 West Nepessing St., Lapeer, MI 48446, Father Rick Bokinskie officiating. Burial will follow at Mt.Loretto Cemetery in Lapeer. Memorial contributions may be made to Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society, 400 W.Portage Ave., Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49786.
